4.5 The battle is settled
After the assassination of William of Orange, his son Prince Maurice of Orange is named stadtholder of Holland and Zeeland. 

Maurice becomes the leader of the Dutch States army.

Under the supreme command of Maurice of Nassau the provinces are successful.

4.5 Stadtholder versus states attorney
The northern provinces work together as the Dutch Republic. 

They meet in the States General to discuss foreign politics. Whilst Maurice leads the army, Johan van Oldenbarnevelt leads the States General. 

He is the state attorney (raadspensionaris) for the Dutch province Holland.

4.5 Liberation from Spain
Maurice dies in 1625.  His half-brother, Frederick Henry, succeeds him. He claims more and more of the Republics land from the Spaniards.

The war against Spain wages on. The rebels are victorious. The reason for this is because Spain is not only at war with the provinces, but with a few other European countries as well.

Spain surrenders in 1648, the Dutch revolt has finally ended after 80 long years.
