Past continuous

Je gebruikt de past continuous om aan te geven dat je ergens mee bezig was op een bepaald moment in het verleden. Je zegt dus dat je iets aan het doen was.

Als twee dingen tegelijkertijd plaatsvinden en ongeveer even lang duren gebruik je twee keer de past continuous.

Er staat dan meestal while in de zin.

Je maakt de past continuous door was of were voor het werkwoord te zetten en –ing er achter

I was sleeping

You were living

He/she/it was swimming

We were going

You were doing

They were having

The lunchlady ........(to make)lunch when the geography teacher was killed

1. were makeing
2. was makeing
3. were making
4. was making

I (not read) a magazine

1. I wasn't reading
2. I weren't reading
3. wasn't I reading
4. weren't I reading

your father (repair) the car?

1. were your father repairing
2. your father was repairing
3. was your father repairing

Past continuous + Past Simple

Als je ergens mee bezig was en dat wordt onderbroken  door iets anders gebruik je de past continuous voor dat waar je het langste of het eerste mee bezig was.

Voor dat wat er tussendoor komt gebruik je de past simple (ww + ed of tweede vorm)

Er staat vaak when in de zin

Je was al tv aan het kijken op het 

 moment dat er werd gebeld.

I was watching TV yesterday.
