1. Choose and read one book.
2. Write a summary (in class).
3. Do two assignments: one blue assignment & one green one.

Books

• 3 options: Stone Cold, The body or David Copperfield
• Books are available in the school library.

1. Write a summary

• In class, you are going to write a summary of the book.
• You will have to answer a number of questions about the book. You are allowed to prepare for this, and bring your book to class.
• But you can only do the assignment on that day, in class.
• This is 50% of your final assignment and grade. 

Example summary: Charles Dickens – A Christmas Carol

With the holidays approaching, the sudden drop of temperatures, and the absences from school, it is a wonderful time to crack open a Christmassy book. With its age old tale, A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens is a perfect choice.

For the few that are unfamiliar with the story: Ebenezer Scrooge is an extremely wealthy, hardened, miserly, old man. He never smiles, he is begrudging about the use of coal to keep his employees warm, not to mention, he has no friends. For him, Christmas is just a day that fools and crazy people celebrate.

One night, as he is sitting in front of his small fire, a ghost of his old business partner Marley. Marley is burdened with chains, forced to wonder for all eternity and warns Scrooge that his fate will be the same if he does not mend his ways. A little scared, but not convinced, Scrooge ignores the warning and goes to bed. Throughout the night, he is visited by three ghosts: the ghost of Christmas Past, the ghost of Christmas present, and the ghost of Christmas yet to come. (Dickens refers to them as spirits, but they seem to be better known as ghosts in today’s culture.) They each take him on a journey.

A Christmas Carol is a heartwarming story to read at any time but especially over the holidays. It is a story for young and old. It is a constant reminder to have a giving and loving spirit.

• All writing should be typed. I am primarily interested in how you make connections to the book. 

Book 1: David Copperfield

What is it about?

The novel traces the life of David Copperfield from the time of his birth to his mature manhood, when he is married and familiar with the vicissitudes of life. His early years are enjoyable with his mother — who was widowed shortly before his birth — and with her servant, Peggotty. Life is happy for David until his mother decides to marry Mr. Murdstone.

Book 2: The Body

What is it about?

The story takes place during the summer of 1960 in the fictional town of Castle Rock, Maine. After a boy disappears and is presumed dead, twelve-year-old Gordie LaChance and his three friends set out to find his body along the railway tracks. During the course of their journey, the boys come to grips with death and the harsh truths of growing up.

Book 3: Stone Cold

What is it about?

It's about the horrors of living on the streets. The book follows Link who runs away from his broken, abusive home as a teenager. He bounces around a few places before the little money he has runs out and he’s forced to live on the streets. He meets a few people while there that he befriends and they work together to survive the harsh conditions. The main problem is that there’s a serial killer in the area hunting homeless people.

What is plagiarism? (plagiaat)

- Copying text from the internet or another source.

- Copying text from someone else (a classmate, someone from another class, etc.).

- BUT ALSO: copying some words/sentences and writing the rest in your own words.

--> EVERYTHING SHOULD BE IN YOUR OWN  WORDS!

Any plagiarism will be seen and result in a 1 with fraud.
