Voorbeeld:

That man who visited my birthday is my father.

Je gebruikt "who" omdat je verwijst naar that man.

Let op! Je verwijst dus niet naar "my birthday"

Who, whose, which

Tip: probeer voor jezelf aan te wijzen waar je precies naar verwijst in de zin. 

This is the car which I bought in 2015. ----> je verwijst dus naar "the car" en niet naar "I"

Johnny, whose mother is an actress, loves to dance as well. --> verwijst naar "Johnny" niet "mother"

Je mag who/which vervangen door that op het moment dat je de bijzin niet weg kan laten omdat de zin anders gek wordt of je informatie mist. 

Er staat dan geen komma voor.

Tom, who is a musician, loves going to concert. >>> niet vervangen!

That’s the man (Who)that gave me directions. >>> wel vervangen!

Whom

Verwijst naar mensen en word altijd gebruikt na voorzetsels (with, to, about, for etc.).

Klinkt erg formeel en word in spreektaal niet gebruikt. 

Is that the woman to whom you were talking earlier?

This is the girl with whom I am going to the festival/

Can you replace who/which by that?
