Most Dutch nouns that end on a consonant get -en at the end in the plural

a minority of nouns get  -s in the plural: 
Hotel-hotels
varken-varkens

There are a few exceptions.

kind - kinderen, blad - bladeren, ei - eieren, lied - liederen

Words that get 's in plural

All words that end on a vowel (except -e, é, en -ee):

  -a: de opa – de opa’s

  -i: de taxi – de taxi’s

  -o: de auto – de auto’s

  -u: de paraplu – de paraplu’s

  -y: de baby – de baby’s

Rules for the plural (continued)

in words with 1 vowel and 2 consonants in front of   -en 

one consonant drops in the singular: 

de botten- het bot (the bone)

In words with 1 vowel and 1 consonant in front of  -en in the plural the vowel doubles in the singular:

de boten - de boot (the boat)

important exceptions

de stad – de steden

het schip – de schepen

het dak – de daken 

de weg – de wegen

de god – de goden

Words with a double vowel or a combined vowel (ui, oe, ie)

that end with  -f of een -s

get a -v or -z in the plural:

de raaf – de raven

de duif – de duiven

de doos – de dozen 

de muis – de muizen

That is the same in verbs, remember?
