## Items in this lesson

Which exercises/theory should I discuss?

#### Slide 1 -Mind map

Coordinate systems
A coordinate system is created by drawing a horizontal and a vertical axis. The steps on each axis should be equal.

#### Slide 2 -Slide

Coordinate systems
The axes can also contain
negative numbers.

The axes intersect each
other at the origin (0, 0)

#### Slide 3 -Slide

Coordinate systems
The axes divide the coordinate
system into 4 quadrants.
The axes themselves are NOT
part of the quadrants.

The quadrants are numbered
counterclockwise
first quadrant
second quadrant
third quadrant
fourth quadrant

#### Slide 4 -Slide

In which quadrant does
point (-3, 2) lie?
A
first quadrant
B
second quadrant
C
third quadrant
D
fourth quadrant

#### Slide 5 -Quiz

(-3, 2) lies in the
second quadrant
first quadrant
second quadrant
third quadrant
fourth quadrant

#### Slide 6 -Slide

In which quadrant does
point (0, -5) lie?

#### Slide 7 -Open question

(0, -5) lies on the vertical axis,
so it lies in none of the
quadrants.
first quadrant
second quadrant
third quadrant
fourth quadrant

Linear formulas
How to make a linear formula from a graph.
1) Make a table, horizontal axis = top row, vertical axis = bottom row, fill in easy to read off points on the graph.
2) Find the start value (value on bottom row when top row = 0)
3) Calculate the gradient (increase in bottom row when the top row increases by 1)
4) Make a formula:
vertical variable = start value + gradient x horizontal variable

#### Slide 9 -Slide

Start value = 4
Gradient = 0.8

Formula:
height = 4 + 0.8 x distance
h = 4 + 0.8d

#### Slide 10 -Slide

Start value = 7 - 2.5 = 4.5
Gradient = 2.5

Formula:
y = 4.5 + 2.5x

#### Slide 11 -Slide
