An adverb is a word that describes:


 - a verb                                          

- an adjective

- another adverb

- an entire sentence
She runs quickly

I am really busy. 

He ran very quickly

Unfortunately, I can't come.

  • Manner (how you do it), then place, then time
  • When the information is really important, you can put it in front of the sentence
  • Two adverbs of time, the more precise one comes first.

Adverbs of manner
Adverbs of manner (really, very, incredibly en terribly etc) komen vóór het woord waarover ze iets zeggen. Dit kan een bijvoeglijk naamwoord zijn (adjective) of een bijwoord (adverb).

Dan kan het vóór het hoofdwerkwoord staan óf achter aan de zin. 
(You have to start pedalling very carefully.)
(Luke nervously waited for the train.)

  1. Voor het hoofdwerkwoord
  2. Na een vorm van 'to be'.
  3. Aan het begin.
  4. Aan het eind (voor nadruk geven) alleen bij: frequently, occasionally, often, sometimes, usually en normally.

  2. I am usually picking up my brother around that time (na vorm 'to be')
  3. My mom will bake cookies for me sometimes. (nadruk!)
