Duty vs Individuality
The Crown is a series on Netflix. Watch part of series 3, episode 2, "Margaretology", on princess Margaret, queen Elizabeth's sister.

WRITING TASK
  • Write a 250-300 word composition on Duty vs Individuality. 
  • Take Queen Elizabeth and Princess Margaret as examples here.
  • Use 4 paragraphs in total
  • Start with an introduction and end with a conclusion

Writing Task - composition lay-out


Paragraph 1 = introduction:
First sentence(s): The British royal family has the duty to unite and serve their country, meaning individual choice is limited. This can be seen in the series The Crown.
Give an example of royal duty and give an example of individual choice.
Finish with a sentence commenting on whether duty is a good thing or a bad  thing in these modern times.

Paragraph 2 = middle part:
First sentence: Queen Elizabeth has an important duty towards Parliament and her country.
Give examples of things queen Elizabeth has to do and cannot do
Finish with a sentence summing up her duties.

Paragraph 3 = middle part:
First sentence: Princess Margaret wanted to be her own person, choose her individual life.
Give examples (use Netflix series The Crown - series 3/episode 2) of what Margaret wanted to do
Finish with a sentence summing up why Margaret wanted to be her own person.

Paragraph 4 = conclusion:
First sentence: Queen Elizabeth represents duty whereas Princess Margaret longed for individuality in the series The Crown.
Sum up the differences between the two and conclude whether a queen/monarch AND her family should have a choice in duty.
