What writing mistakes do you know of?

Frequently made mistakes

I (ik) is always capitalized!

Its without ' means something different than it's (also don't, that's, etc.).

Never use Dutch words.

You can't start a sentence with and.

Straat taal - No wanna, gonna or cuzz. You write the words fully.

Dunglish - you can't translate a sentence word for word from Dutch

Interpunction: Exclamation marks, question marks, points and commas.

Capital Letters:

When you talk about "ik", "i" is wrong, it is always “I” 

Days of the week, months : Monday, Tuesday, August, October

Names of places: Hilversum, London, New York

Names: Luke, Annabeth, Stephen

There betekent DAAR

Their is het bezittelijk voornaamwoord bij they (their bike/their house)

They’re is de samentrekking van they are en betekent zij zijn

Where/were/we're

Where betekent waar (locatie)

Were is de verledentijd van to be

We're is we are letterlijk wij zijn.

Assignment 1

On the next few slides you will see a sentence with a mistake. Answer what the mistake is in the sentence.

Their name is luke and they're 14 years old.

1. Their should be there.
2. They're should be their.
3. Their should not be capitalized.
4. Luke should be capitalized.

I cant hang out Tuesday. I have homework.

1. Cant should be can't.
2. Tuesday does not need to be capitalized.
3. The point should be a comma.
4. Hang out should be one word.

Assignment 2

In the next few slides you have sentences with mistakes. Write down the correct way to write the sentence.

Practise persuasive writing

On the next slide we have a partial story with a lot of common mistakes about the same topic we made the test last week. Use pen and paper to correct the story. Check with your neighbour when you are done.

What not to do.

home work is not important cuzz kids need to explore the world so when they get older they know where they are kids also need to play outside cuzz its healty for them to braete air also when kids are in class they do verry much cuzz most lessons during 45 minutes and in the 45 minutes the need to focus the whole time and than they have verry much subjects on a day so for example somone has 6 lessons a day and only 2 braeks of an half hour al the lesson al to gether th`t are 270 minutes in a day and when they come home there wil expected from them to make home work help their parents witch cleaning or somthing and than they need to eat and then they have home work again and they go to bed at 11 am or pm idk but that is not good

What not to do

In my opinion we dont need homework because we are at school for 8 hours a day from early in the morning until in the middle of the day and i think that if we finish it in the lessons it would be much better for the kids because we dont need more time out of school to do schoolwork because we have a life of our own and if i have homework i cant hang out with friends as much and that stops me from getting the social capabilitys that i need because i whould be in my room all the time and i whouldnt be able to make new friends or something.Also it is very stresfull because if i have a deadline and i need more time it makes me sleep less and do less good in school so its very stresfull for most people and that is worse than doing a little more work in the lessons.
