Adverbs (how?):

An adverb can give more info on three different items.​



1) An adverb can give more info on a verb.​

2) An adverb can give more info on an adjective.​

3) An adverb can give more info on another adverb.​



The spelling can change!






Adjectives (what?):

An adjective gives more info on a noun.​

The view was wonderful.​



Adjectives with numbers use hyphens.​

An eight-year-old boy​



The spelling doesn't change!

Spelling adverbs:

The rule is: add –ly to the word.​

Beautiful → beautifully​

Exceptions:

Consonant +y → -ily easy→easily​

Consonant + le → -ly probable→probably​

Good → well
Examples:

1) Adverbs giving more info on a verb.​



We didn’t play badly.​



2) Adverbs giving more info on an adjective.​



My sister’s friends are dreadfully dull.​



3) Adverbs giving more info on another abverb.​



She sings beautifully well.

Some words are adverbs en adjectives:​

Daily​

Early​

High​

Low​

Far​

Fast​

Wrong​

Strange​

Hard​

Late​

So: Don't change the spelling! 

He is a fast runner - He runs fast.
With some verbs you use an adjective:​

To be​

To taste​

To look​

To feel​

To smell​

To sound​

So: Don't change the spelling!

That sounds terrible!

-ed?:

We use the ending '-ed' when the word tells you how somebody feels. ​



Jane is bored.
-ing?:

We use the ending '-ing' when the words tells you what something/someone is like.​



Jane's work is boring.

I'm bored with doing homework.​

I'm excited about reading.​

I'm thrilled I'm having a party.​





These are all about how someone feels.
-ing:

Doing homework is boring.​

Reading about history is exciting.​

Having a party is thrilling.​





These are all about what something/someone is like.

hard/hardly:

Hard and hardly have different meanings:​

Hard = difficult​

Hardly = very little, almost not​

late/lately:

Late and lately have different meanings:​

Late = not on time​

Lately = recently​
