Read the text

Ask yourself questions to see if your ideas of the text make sense. 
Reread the text if needed.

4. Connect
Think about what you know about the topic of the text and make a mind map with these words
( words like adjectives, verbs, etc.)

5. Identify
Determine the author´s purpose.
Find the main idea and the important details.
What are the main themes in the text.

6. Infer
Use clues in the text to fill in the gaps and draw conclusions.
If a word is unknown to you:
  • See if it´s and adjective or a noun.
  •  Look at the different parts of the word. You might already know part of the word.
  • Use you own language. Sometimes the word is similar to a word of your language. 
(Only after you have done all the former steps, you may look up words in a dictionary)
