Early years of the Cold War
  • The occupied zones of US, UK and France started working together, the occupied zone of the SU did not
  • The two sides drifted apart
  • In 1948 there was a long row about West-Berlin
  • Stalin, leader of the Soviet Union and communism, prohibited all access to West Berlin
  • The American supplied the city with everything it needed... by air!

Economic progress
  • In the years after WWII the occupied zones of the US, UK and France joined to become West Germany (democracy/capitalism)
  • The SU zone became East Germany (communism)
  • West Germany was much better at creating a succesfull economy and liberty than East Germany. 
  • Many people from East Germany moved to West Germany
