Extracts
  • Consecutive panels
  • Consecutive lines
  • Consecutive stills
  • Consecutive everything!
  • Maximum 40 lines
  • Line = not a sentence
  • 12 sentences, 16 lines

Slide 2 - Slide

Outline
  • The only tool there to help you so invest in it
  • Rather than saying what you are going to do (introduce texts), mention the facts about the texts
  • Return to the global issue. So what? What does each text say about the global issue/What is the author's 'stance' regarding the global issue in the extract?

Slide 3 - Slide

Double-check
1) Is the global issue really present in both extracts?
2) Pay attention to the phrasing of your global issue - not too broad, not too specific - and make sure you meet the three requirements
3) Do you show knowledge and understanding of the global issue, extract and larger bodies of work?
4) What are you going to say about the style that has been used to present this global issue? What terminology are you going to use?
5) Are you analysing and evaluating or accidentally just making statements without discussing meaning and effect (= summary)?
6) Have you read, studied and applied all the rules in the syllabus and the documents on classroom?
7) Are YOU the owner of this piece? Are YOU the expert and can YOU defend and explain every choice you  have made in your outline and do a proper analysis on the IO? This is YOUR work, YOUR idea, not the teacher's. The teacher just goes with what you have come up with and can only help you get the most out of it in the final 5 minutes.

Deadlines
  • Opportunity for feedback on global issue, ideas, extracts and outline has passed
  • 25 January: final deadline for final version extracts and outline. NOTHING can be changed anymore.
  • Last minute changes before that deadline? Risk of having the same as someone else and being sent back to the drawing board
  • Questions? >9 January -> VVO@wolfert.nl

Individual questions: join me here between 12:00 and 12:20.
See you all again at 12:20 for final instructions and potential questions on your end

Week 11.12 -> SE-2
Week 4.1 -> SE-2
Week 11.1 -> SE-2 + CITO listening + final deadline extracts and outline on classroom (failure to comply as well as plagiarism can lead to exclusion from programme)
Week 18.1 -> no lessons - VVO has orals with TH5 - work on your HLE
Week 25.1 -> Your IOs with Ms Vos - no lessons apart from that - work on your HLE
Week 1.2 -> class (don't know her planning) - deadline HLE TurnItIn (failure to comply as well as plagiarism can lead to exclusion from programme)
Week 8.2 - Upload HLE
SE-3: paper 1
The HLE (25 %) and IO (25 %) get sent to the IB.
They get graded by the IB.
You write your official paper 1 (50 %) in the May vacation.
Gets graded by the IB.

These 3 components are put together, they calculate an average  and your results (if they comply with the requirements and academic honesty) will be published in July. IB 4 or higher is a pass.

The IB can request to see your portfolio and the evidence of your work.

VWO at least 5, often 6 and hopefully 7 :-)

You take your CITO reading after the May vacation. I grade it.
The grade gets combined with your VWO grade for the IO, CITO listening and SE-3 paper 1 and you end up with your final VWO English grade. Can't be lower than a 5.
