The Salon expectations

No entering the Salon without a tutor 

No food or drinks  when entering the Salon- Only water in a clear bottle

Get out your Procedure and work pack and Learning Review booklets

Participate fully in your session

Dress code is to be followed at all times in the salon

No Hands up- Questions- No opt out 

No use of mobile phones- unless instructed to by tutor – Keep them in your bag

Frequent toilet breaks will not be acceptable

Safe and hygienic practices

  • What PPE would we need for make-up treatments?

Equipment needed

  • Headband/clips.

  • Towel/gown to cover client’s clothes.

  • Cleanser, toner and moisturiser.

  • Disposables: Cotton bud/discs, sponges.

  • Make-up products.

  • Make-up palette.

  • Mirror

  • Sterilised make-up brushes.


Now set up your area for a make-up treatment.

How do we use concealer's?

Colour correcting concealers:

  1. Choose the colour-correcting concealer required for your client's needs.

  2. Apply hygienically to the area that needs correcting.

  3. Blend out using a sponge or brush.

  4. Continue with skin tone concealer.

Skin tone concealers:

  1. Choose a concealer that matches the client’s skin tone

  2. Hygienically apply a small amount of concealer

  3. Blend using a sponge or suitable brush using tapping motions.

  4. Set using a translucent powder – This will prevent creasing and help the make-up last.

Day make up looks

How can we determine a day make-up look from and evening look?


Think about what your client currently uses daily. How will this help you choose the make-up you would apply on your client?

Matching foundation

What Is the purpose of applying foundation?

  • To even out skin tone.

  • To provide a good base to apply further make-up products.

How can we adjust a foundation to make it match our client's skin?

  • Mix foundation with lighter/darker shade.

How do we identify face shapes?

Why is it important to work out your client’s face shape when applying make-up?

Highlighter and shader are used to help change the appearance of a face shape.

Highlighter – Brings the area forward and draws attention to the area

Shader/contour – Creates shadow and helps to hide the area.

Use your face chart to show where you would apply highlighter and shader on your client.

Step 2: Identify your clients eye colour.


Step 3: Discuss your eyeshadow colour choices with your client during your consultation.


Step 4: Apply the eyeshadow to suit your clients eye shape.
