Ability in the present

Can	Used to express ability
	I can do that
am/is/are able to	Used to express ability. Usually interchangeable with can. Must be used after words that need a gerund/infinitive
	I love being able to go to school I want to be able to talk Spanish

Could	Used to express ability in the past. Especially in combination with verbs of perception (see, feel, hear etc.)
was/were able to	Used to express ability in the past
manage to	Ability in past, focus on struggle
