Een adverb kan iets zeggen over:

  • Een verb: The children played quietly.
  • Een adjective: This is a awfully light room.
  • Een ander adverb: They ran incredibly slowly.
  • De hele zin: Luckily, the bus was on time.

Een adverb kun je vaak maken door -ly achter een adjective te zetten: sure - surely, realistic - realisticly

Er zijn ook onregelmatige adverbs:
good - well, hard - hard, late - late

  • Can betekent dat het waarschijnlijk is.
  • Could betekent dat het iets minder waarschijnlijk is.
  • May betekent dat het nog minder waarschijnlijk is
  • Might betekent dat het bijna onwaarschijnlijk is.

  • Can gebruik je alleen in de present simple
  • Could gebruik je voor iets wat mogelijk zou kunnen, en soms als verleden tijd van can
  • To be able to kun je met alle werkwoordstijden gebruiken
