The Wave
In 1981, Morton Rhue published the book "The Wave" (De Golf). The story is about a history teacher named Ross who conducts an experiment on his class following a slideshow about World War II. In disbelief, his students claim that such situations are unthinkable nowadays. Ross promptly decides to establish a movement: 'The Wave'.
It is based on a true story. The experiment took place in 1969.

  1. Write a letter to the school newspaper, The Grapevine, after the rally. What do you think about Mr Ross and the Wave?
  2. You are the leader of a sports team. Write ten rules for your team members. What must they do? What mustn't they do?
  3. Give the story a different ending. Mr Ross doesn't stop the Wave. It gets stronger. What happens? Write about it. 
  4. Write about one of the people in the story. What do you know about this person? What do you feel about him/her and why?
