The Present Continuous
am/ is/ are + verb- ing​

> Used to describe an action that is going on at that moment. 
  • I am walking to school.
  • S(he)it is walking to school.
  • We/ you/ They are walking to school.  
  • Miss Akkus is teaching us grammar right now.

The Simple Past
base form + ed /

  • Used to describe an action or event that happened in the past.
I walked to school yesterday.
She walked  to school yesterday.
We walked to school yesterday.
The class hated English. 

Exceptions :
stud(y) -ied
stop - stopped (verdubbeling na elke beklemtoonde klinker)
travel - travelled ( verdubbelt na een klinker)

The Past Continuous
was/were + w.w.-ing
  • Used to describe an action that is ongoing                    ( continues to happen)​
  • An action from the past that continued for a period of time in the past.
I was taking a shower, when my mother came home.  
Came= irregular verb "to come", so change in vowel

 I will go with you to the cinema.
  • Use to describe an event or action planned in the future.  
  • Used to make a promise or take a spontaneous decision.
