It is the end of the afternoon in the summer of the year 750, when Lord Robert lets his free farmers pay their rent. One by one the farmers come by to pay their rent, some of them very reluctantly. Robert asks the farmers to give him three sacks of grain each month. His steward writes everything down. Everyone has delivered their grain and has gone back to their homes.
The serfs have just returned from their land and also returned back home. The next morning Lord Robert returns to his storage and discovers that one of his bags of grain has been stolen! He returns to his manor and calls his wife: ‘’My grain has been stolen!’’. Lord Robert cannot forgive this theft and he will do his best to discover the thief!
