  • The Germans attacked the Sovjet Union on June 22th of 1941.
  • Operation "Barbarossa" started of as a great succes.
  • In winter the tables began to turn.
  • In 1942 till 1943 the Germans were fighting in Stalingrad, but they lost.

  • In december 1941 Hitler declared war on the USA.
  • Japan had just attacked the USA at Pearl Harbor.
  • Japan and Germany were allies.

  • On june 6th of 1944 the Allies (Canada, GB, USA) landed on the beaches of Normany.

  • We hoped to stay neutral.
  • But Germany attacked on may 10th of 1940.
  • There was more resistance then the Germans anticipated. 
  • After 4 days of fighting the Germans bombed Rotterdam.
  • The Netherlands surrendered.

  • End of democracy, freedom of press and freedom of speech. The only political party was the NSB.
  • An nazi became the Dutch leader: Arthur Seyss Inquart. 
  • The German occupation started out as not too strict.
  • The Germans veiwed the Dutch as fellow Germans.
