Slide 2 - Slide

Ik begin met het introduceren van mezelf. My name is Homaira Faqiri and im looking forward to teaching you. I know it's quite boring sometimes to say something about yourself because im sure you have all already done that and most likely know each other already so I will skip that. However I would like to know everyones names so im just gonna name everyone off the list and check if I can pronounce everyones names and also if everyone is present.
Let's get to know me!
We will do a quiz where you have to guess things about me.

1. Take your laptop and log into the lesson up. (the code will appear on the screen)
2. If you don't have your laptop with you, you can think about your answer and I will ask some of you what your guess is. (no phones :)

Slide 3 - Slide

Okay so since you probably already know each other I thought it would be fun for you guys to know me better. Therefore I made a quiz with some general questions and you can guess which answer you think is correct. So please grab your laptops and go to lesson.com. If you don't have your laptop with you I'll just ask you which one you think is the right answer.
Als de meerderheid geen laptop mee heeft zou ik ook eventueel hier een wedstrijd van kunnen. maken en vragen aan elk groepje wat zij denken dat het antwoord is.

Next up:
You can put your laptops away now.

We're going to play something called two truths and a lie.
Basically: you say three fun facts about yourself, however one of them is a lie. Other people have to guess which one is the lie.

(example on the next slide)

Example
1. I used to be a student at this school.
2. I once peed myself while I was performing a song on stage.
3. I was raised in America and moved to Holland when I was 9.

One of these statements about me is a lie and two of them are true.
Can you guess which one is a lie?
If you aren't sure you can ask me questions to find out if im lying or not.

Now it's your turn
  •  groups of 4/5
  •  every individual writes down 3 different things about themselves like I did. (yes in English)
  • Be creative with it and think about the funniest and most unbelievable things that have happened to you.
  •  Do not share what you wrote with your group just yet.
  • Once your group is done, then you can share and let your group guess your lie.
  •  you have about 10 minutes~

Slide 13 - Slide

Als ik dit heb uitgelegd vertel ik erbij dat ik rondloop om te kijken hoe het gaat en op die manier hoor ik over iedereen wel wat
The goal of this activity is for me to get to know you better in a way that isn't just about your hobby and it's more fun and in smaller groups rather than the whole class. After this activity we will do somethin else with writing so only write on the front of your paper so we can use the back of the paper for the next activity
Creative writing
  • for this activity you need a pen and paper. (just use the same paper as the previous activity)
  • You're going to write a short story with your groups.
  • Each of you first starts the story by writing down one sentence. After each round you have to give your paper to the person sitting next to you (clockwise). That person has to continue writing your story (one or more sentences). And so on....

Creative writing
  • Rule: no cuss words or anything inappropriate. Only write using fictional people.
  • I might ask some people to read it out loud so be creative and make it funny or even poetic.
  • Each round will be a minute long.
  • The teacher will walk around to check how everyone is doing.
  • Goal of this activity is for you to write creatively in English. So don't focus too much on grammatical/spelling mistakes.

Slide 15 - Slide

Idk how many rounds we'll do in total so well just have to see how its going
Start writing
You can choose to start your story with ANY sentence but if you don't know what to start with, you can pick one of these:
1. I had never seen a ghost before, until today...
2. Today is the third of July, my 18th birthday but also my last, because...
3. The crash just happened and no one saw it coming..
4. Every morning, I walked to the café just to see him again..

After a couple rounds we will end it and you can read your
stories to your group.

Next lesson
  • Next week no English classes. I'll be in London (exam trip)
  • For the next lessons: make sure you always bring your laptop and a notebook. Occasionally we will use our workbook (I will let you know beforehand) so always check magister.
  •  Phones always go in the bag, if I happen to see you use it during class you have to hand it in until the end of class.
  •  Have a good rest of your day!

Slide 17 - Slide

also mention that if they don't bring their material for over three times there will be consequences to it. Not sure yet what but I will tell them during the next lesson. Same goes for the phones issue.
