Een bijvoeglijk naamwoord zegt iets over het zelfstandig naamwoord (ZN) in de zin. Een ZN is altijd een mens, dier, of ding.

In de zin komt het bijvoeglijk naamwoord dan altijd vóór het ZN.
Voorbeeld: The tall girl was running in the basketball court.

Er kunnen ook 2 bijvoeglijke naamwoorden in een zin staan:
