- know when to use pronouns instead of determiners

Slide 2 - Slide

Today we will be looking at some vocab and listen to a radio program about 'world schooling'. Ask a student to read out the goals on the board.
Homework:
Do: Vocab 1-4 on p. 35
Study: Words unit 5 (take)

Before class, check did their homework. Write down who didn't and ask why they haven't sent it to me.
Note down in Magister if they didn't do the homework unless they have a very very good reason.

What is possession?
What is an apostrophe?

Ask students the first 2 questions and then ask them to look at the sentences on the board and tell me what in the sentence shows possession.

*apostrophe + s ( 's) for people and animals
*singular noun: use 's
  my mum's necklace
*plural nouns: put the (') behind the word
  my cousins' jackets
What's the difference between singular and plural nouns?
*plural noun without -s?: use 's

Students write down the sentences with * and answer my questions. First they write down the 1st sentence and I'll explain, then do the same order for the other 3.

Show them this list of determiners (determines who it belongs to) and pronouns and ask students to read them out.

Students write down these 2 sentences. Example sentences are optional and then I'll explain.

Choose the correct word
3. Nora saw Sue at the cinema. She's a friend of she/her/hers
4. I've got two cats. They/Their/Theirs names are Leo and Tiger
5. Who does this jumper belong to? Is it you/your/yours?

Students write down the full sentence correctly for 1 and 2 and only the correct word for 3-5.
They can work together but only with their neighbour.

What: Do Grammar 1, 3, 5, 7 and 8 on p. 37
How: You can work together. Keep the volume low
Help: grammar notes, grammar  on p. 152, teacher, each other.
Time: 10 min
Done: Look at the words 'materials' from unit 6 p. 141 and try to write down what they might mean
Outcome: This is your homework

Students now can do the exercises. When they're done, they can try to figure out what the materials from Unit 6 'materials' are.
