A good e-mail looks like this:

What does the opening greeting look like?

Opening Greeting: Formal

Use greetings like 'Dear Mr./Ms. [Last Name]' for formal emails.

Opening Greeting: Informal

Start with 'Hi [First Name]' or 'Hello [First Name]' for informal emails.

What does an introduction and reason for writing look like?


Introduction & Reason: Formal

Clearly state your purpose, e.g., 'I am writing to inquire about...'.

  • You have received an email from your cousin Diana in Australia. She's asking if you would like to come and work at her parents' farm. She says her parents will pay for your plane ticket. They will also provide meals and pocket money.

    Write an email to your cousin.

    • Thank her for the invitation and say that you would love to come.

    • Ask two practical questions about working/staying in Australia.

    • Open and close your email in a suitable way
