Word order (SVO)

A sentence’s standard word order is Subject + Verb + Object (SVO).  The subject is what a sentence is about; so, it comes first.

For example:
The dog (subject) + eats (verb) + popcorn (object).

Slide 8 - Slide

Word order (SVO)

  1. The subject comes first in a sentence because it makes our meaning clear when writing and speaking.
  2. Then, the verb comes after the subject
  3. The object comes after the verb; and that’s the most common word order.

Slide 9 - Slide

Always SVO
Otherwise you get INCORRECT sentences

Eats popcorn the dog. (verb + object + subject)
or
Popcorn the dog eats. (object + subject + verb).

Slide 10 - Slide

Let's look at some SVO examples with Adjective and Adverbials

go to exercise 4A on page 21 (ga naar p. 21)

Now do exercises 4B and 4C on page 22 (maak 4B & 4C)

This is homework if you do not finish in class (huiswerk)
