  • Due to trade North Italian cities such as Venice, Florence & Genoa became very rich and powerful. 
  • They lived among ruins from the Roman period and wanted to know more about them.

Knowlegde of the east
  • After the fall of Constantinople (1453) many scholars, architects, poets, astronomers, scientists and artist fled to Italy and caused the Renaissance.
