Generating electrical energy

Slide 1 - Slide

Lessonplan
  • What happens in a power station?
  • What is induction?
  • How does an dynamo work?

Slide 2 - Slide

turbine
generator
transformer
control room
condenser
coolant water
fuel
Air
Burners

Slide 3 - Slide

An induced voltage
  • The generator uses motion to create a voltage (dynamo)
  • Coil & magnet
  • Magnet moves --> voltage changed
  • Alternating voltage, also known as induced voltage

Slide 4 - Slide

Dynamo
  • Magnet & coil
  • Bicycle weel spins --> magnetic field changes in the coil --> voltage induced --> lamp goes on.
  • Same as in a generator!

Slide 5 - Slide

Dynamo
  • 1 revolution of the dynamo
  • magneticfield switches 2x
  • = so 1 period of the voltage-time graph.

Slide 6 - Slide

You can generate an alternating voltage using a dynamo. This kind of alternating voltage is also known as an...........

Slide 7 - Open question

What belongs where?
Burners
Turbine
Generator
Transformer
Condenser
A lot of heat is generated in this part, this heat is released and heats the water in the boiler.
Here, steam is used to create movement.
Induction is used to generate an alternating voltage.
Here the voltage is converted so that it can be distributed.
