Used to compare persons, animals, or things with another

to compare with = used to compare persons/ animals, things of a similar order, like these cars.

to compare to = used to compare things/persons/ animals of a different order ('Shall I compare thee to a summer's day').

De trappen van vergelijking:

1. Brownie is a small dog: small  = bijvoeglijk naamwoord.

2. Brownie is smaller than Spot.

3. Brownie is the smallest dog.


Zin 2 is de vergrotende trap. Daar heb je  'than' bij nodig.
Zin 3 is de overtreffende trap. Daar heb je 'the' bij nodig.

Black Story - A light in the darkness
A man dies after striking a match. He doesn't even have to be buried. What happened?

A convict had bribed an undertaker to help him escape from prison. At the next prison funeral service the convict planned to hide in the coffin with the corpse, and the undertaker would dig open the grave the same day and free him.
