Essence
Nigeria’s economy is mainly based on the export of oil. Foreign companies have concessions to exploit oil onshore and offshore, especially in the Niger Delta. Nigeria is vulnerable to changes in the global oil market, because it is a mono-economy.
Despite the oil-rich parts of Nigeria, the Nigerian people in general are still poor, due to the resource curse. It is mainly the corrupt Nigerian government that profits from the oil revenues.
