Als je een ontkenning maakt met een vorm van (to) be 
 (am, is, are / was, were) 
hoef je er alleen maar not achter te zetten, net zoals je in het Nederlands doet.
I am not going to the movies tonight.

Ontkenningen: (to) have got

Uitleg
Het werkwoord have got betekent hebben.


– I have got the keys = Ik heb de sleutels
– She has got a car = Zij heeft een auto

Als je wilt zeggen dat iemand iets niet heeft, zet je not tussen have en got.
– I have not got the keys = Ik heb de sleutels niet
– She has not got a car = Zij heeft geen auto


Je mag not ook op deze manier afkorten:
– I haven’t got the keys
– She hasn’t got a car
