Grammar: when do
you use 's?

Genetive: 's

• Duid bezitsrelatie aan (onderwerp -> voorwerp)

Nederlands: Moeders telefoon, mijn auto, haar schoolboek, etc.

Engels: Patrick’s family, their client’s wishes, her dad's car, etc.

Genetive: 's

Bij zelfstandige naamwoorden en namen in het enkelvoud komt de apostrof na de laatste letter van het woord en voor de -s:

• Adam’s drink ('s geeft aan dat het drankje van Adam is).
• Beethoven’s fifth
  
• The company’s profits

Genetive: 's

Bij namen in het enkelvoud die eindigen op -s (bijv. James) komt de apostrof na de laatste letter van het woord en voor de -s, maar mag ook alleen met apostrof geschreven worden:

St James’s Hospital OF St James’ Hospital

Pythagoras’s theorem OF Pythagoras’ theorem

Genetive: 's

Gebruik geen apostrof om iets in het meervoud te zetten.

Dus niet: *comma’s - *dilemma’s - *video’s,

Maar wel: commas - dilemmas - videos.

Meervoudsvormen die niet met een -s eindigen schrijf je zo:

women's shoes (ev. woman, mv. women)

children's clothing (ev. child, mv. chilren)
