I can correctly use a / an and the with nouns.

When to use "a" in a sentence

We use "a" as an article when we hear a consonant (medeklinker) at the start of the following word/ or to mention something for the first time in a sentence: 

• a cat
• a dog
• a university (you hear "Y")
• a table
• a human

When to use "an" in a sentence

We use "an" when we hear a vowel(klinker) at the start of the following word.

• an apple
• an umbrella
• an  honor ( you say o' nor) 
• an English teacher

When to use "the" in a sentence

We use "the" when it's clear what we are talking about (if there is only one of it).

• I've got a cat and a dog. The cat is very sweet.
• Go to the cinema
• Play the guitar
• Listen to the radio

When to use no article at all in a sentence

We don't use an article when we are making a generalisation

I don't like spicy food

(Niet!!! I don't like the spicy food)
