What is National Board Certification?
The National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) - is an organization whose mission is to advance the quality of teaching and learning by: maintaining high and rigorous standards for what accomplished teachers should know and be able to do; providing a national voluntary system certifying teachers who meet these standards, and; advocating related education reforms to integrate National Board Certification in American education and to capitalize on the expertise of National Board Certified Teachers.

National Board Certification Fun Facts
  • Board-certified teachers are often given opportunities to have an impact way beyond their individual classrooms.
  • Because Board-certified teachers are recognized as experts, they are often sought out for leadership positions in their schools and districts.
  • In significant numbers, NBCTs serve as team leaders, department chairs, and instructional coaches. Many NBCTs move on to serve as school and district administrators or within the state department of education.
