Grammar 1.5 - Can + Infinitive
  • Can is always used together with another verb:
  1. I can cook dinner tonight.
  2. Can you help me with my homework?
  3. I can't wait to see you.
  • We use the infinitive (= the whole verb) after can -> cook, help, wait

  • To make a negative sentence we use can't or cannot
  • We make negatives and questions without do:
  1. Can I help you? (not: Do I can help you?)
  2. I can't come over tonight. (not: I don't can come over tonight.)

Slide 12 - Slide

Can't is the shorter version of cannot.
Grammar 1.6 - Cardinal Numbers
We use cardinal numbers (1, 2, 27, 59, 83, etc.) for counting
After twenty, you use a hyphen (streepje) between the numbers.
  • Twenty-one
  • Thirty-four
  • Forty-five
  • Seventy-seven
  • Fifty-six
