We are going to do 2 things today:

1.  Learn how to construct negative sentence with the Past Simple
2.  How to use modifiers ( really , very, quite) and their difference.

2020 - 2021

• I didn't finish my album.

• I didn't take my guitar to the repair shop. (It's still broken)

Negative Sentences - Past Simple - Rule -->

Now let's talk about Modifiers

• A modifier changes (modifies) the intensity of a word.

• aka

• Makes it stronger.

• We will learn 3 modifiers today:

• Very, Really, Quite

Let's take a look at my old sentences...

1. I didn't go on a Christmas holiday.
2. I didn't complete Nier Automata (yet).
3. I didn't finish my album.
4.   I didn't take my guitar to that repair shop.

Reaction Time

1. That's really sad!
   
2. That's quite alright.. it's just a game.
3. That's very lazy of me.
4. That's quite stupid, since the shop is only half an hour away.
   

Using Modifiers ( quite, very, really).
Write a short reaction to your previous sentences.

So what's the rule then?

Use very / really to make adjectives and adverbs stronger.

Very strong
Really strong
Very wrongly
Very Poorly

The meaning of very/really is the same as extremely.

Exception -->

• You can use really in front of a verb (werkwoord)
  

e.g.

1. It really kills me that she did that! CORRECT

• However, you can't do that with very...
• 2. It very kills me that she did that! WRONG

Quite

• Quite means the same thing as really / very. But is less strong.

• That's quite alright.
• That's quite a long jump.
• You are quite nice.

Use Quite if you want to make a word stronger but not in an intense way.
