  • In general: you need it in your (professional) life in one way or another.
  • 21st century skills (communication, ICT skills, collaboration)

Make a list of issues you want to talk about, for example: 
  • What is the topic you are discussing ?
  • Why did you choose this topic? 
  • Why is this an important or interesting topic for you or others? 
  • Look at this topic from different perspectives. What are your sources?
  • What did you learn, studying this topic? Something remarkable?
  • Make it more lively by telling a personal anecdote or a joke. 
  • Use a closing statement to end the presentation.
  • Ask if there are any questions.

How do you prepare?
  • Listen to English podcasts about your topic.
  • Read English websites about your topic.
  • Watch English videos, documentaries or vlogs about your topic.
  • Practise makes perfect: have a try-out for family or friends.
  • Make sure your presentation is long enough, use a stopwatch when you practise in front of the mirror or family or friends.

Some tips
  • Don't read from a piece of paper. Try to memorise your presentation.
  • Make eye-contact with your audience.
  • You can write key words on a piece of paper to stay on track.
  • Try to use your voice to keep the attention: speak slower, faster, higher, lower. If you dare: pause for a second to raise the tension.
  • Ask (rhetorical) questions to get the listeners engaged. 
  • Remember: you have studied the subject, so you probably know more about it than any one else in class!
