Ontkennende vragen gebruik je om:
- te vragen om bevestiging.
- ergernis of ongeloof uit te drukken.

Zet de ontkenning vooraan:

Don't you like music? (bevestiging)

Didn't you hear me? (bevestiging/ergernis?

Can't you just be quiet? (ergernis)

Haven't you tried this before? (ongeloof)

- Als een zin een vorm van to be heeft (am, are, is, was, were) of have got/has got of een ander hulpwerkwoord
> zet dit werkwoord vooraan + not
He can help me with my homework:
Can't he help me with my homework?
It is his dream to become a famous actor:
Isn't it his dream to become a famous actor?

  • Can't/couldn't (cannot/ could not)
  • Shouldn't (should not)
  • Wouldn't (would not)

Staan er andere werkwoorden in zin
> don't/ doesn't gebruiken bij ontkennende vragen in de tegenwoordige tijd.
> didn't bij vragen in de verleden tijd.


Daarna volgt het onderwerp en het hele werkwoord.

  • They have tickets for the concert.
  • Don't they have tickets for the concert (!)

Belangrijk: de TENSE (tijd) verandert niet!
