Past simple: negations
Er zijn twee manieren om in de past simple een ontkenning te maken: 
1. Bij was/were of een hulpww als could/ would voeg je -n't (not) aan het woord.
- She wasn't in Italy.
- Rick and Bo weren't happy to leave France.
- I couldn't see the Mona Lisa in Paris.

Past simple: negations
2. Bij andere ontkenningen in de verleden tijd zet je didn't voor het hoofdwerkwoord.
Na didn't komt altijd het hele werkwoord.
- I didn't bring my sunglasses.
- Lucy didn't like camping.
- We didn't see any dolphins.

  2. She wasn’t on the phone with her boyfriend.
  3. Sandy didn’t visit her grandma last Saturday.
  4. We didn’t spend a lot of money during our vacation.

Questions in the past simple ...
  1. Was/ were of hulpwerkwoord aan het begin van de zin.
  2. Did aan het begin van de zin + hele werkwoord.
  3. WH-woord (e.g. who, what, where, when, which, how) aan het begin van de zin.

Negations in the past simple ...
  1. Bij was/were of hulpwerkwoord in de zin voeg je -n't (not) aan het woord.
  2. Bij alle andere ww gebruik je didn't + hele werkwoord.
