Hogmanay
For most people December 31 is New Year's Eve, but in Scotland they call it Hogmanay. Historically, the Scottish people didn't celebrate Christmas. That's why Hogmanay became such an important festival. Did you know that both the first and the second day of January are public holidays in Scotland? That's because New Year's celebrations in Scotland last longer than anywhere else!

Slide 8 - Slide

Answer the questions for exercise 1.

What do you do to celebrate New Year?
Are there any typical New Year's traditions in your area? If so, what are they?
Do you know any other New Year's traditions from around the world?
