Skim skim a text!

Skim a text?

Skimming a text (2)

When you need to find out if a text is useful or interesting, you can use this strategy. By exploring a text you get to know the subject of the text. You use this strategy before you start reading the text in more detail.

Skimming

- Fast reading to get a general idea of text

- It will give you an overview ( overzicht) or main points of the text

What are you looking for when you are skimming a text?

– title

– introduction

– subheadings

– images (illustrations or pictures)

– lists, rows, grids or diagrams

You can also look at the source at the end of the text. The source often tells you what kind of text it is: an article, a story, an advert, etc.

You are going to get two minutes to SKIM the whole text.

After two minutes, we are going to discuss this in the class.
