Quiet Reading: Try to finish your novel before the end of the school year

What do you need to do to get a great grade? 

1.  Look at the question carefully, what sort of question is it? Read the instructions again so that you know exactly what to do. 
2. Signal words - have you spotted them all? - tenses etc?
3. Can you spot the incorrect answers and cross them out? 

The Main Idea

Important topic:

Recognising the main idea is important for good reading skills. Students who can find the main idea understand texts better and can process information more quickly.

 For multiple-choice questions, the questions are usually in order of the text. Read only the part where you think the answer is. Then try to give your own answer first and then try to see which answer most closely resembles your own.

So for each question, try to find the right piece of text where you can find the answer. This means that you will read some parts several times. If you really can't find the answer, go to the next question and come back to it later. Maybe you will have seen the answer in another place by then!

Kijk goed naar de volgorde van de gebeurtenissen in de alinea's. Probeer de alinea's te rangschikken op basis van hoe het verhaal zich ontwikkelt, van de ontdekking van het probleem tot de oplossing.

Kijk goed naar de oorzaak-gevolgrelaties in de alinea's. Probeer te bepalen welke alinea het beste aansluit bij de alinea over de onderzoeksmethoden van de ingenieurs en volg daarna de logische voortgang naar de oplossing van het probleem.

Dit is het juiste antwoord. Paragraaf 3 stelt dat lage-kwaliteit elektrische voertuigen "vaak opgeslagen of opgeladen worden in een huis of werkplek, dus er is een hoger risico dat een brand zich verspreidt." Dit impliceert dat het veiliger zou zijn om ze buiten op te laden en op te slaan, waar een mogelijke brand minder schade kan aanrichten.

Stap 1: Eerst het antwoord zonder naar de opties te kijken

Laten we paragraaf 3 goed lezen. Mevrouw Sutcliffe noemt drie problemen met goedkope elektrische voertuigen:

✗ ONJUIST - De tekst gaat over brandgevaar bij het opladen, niet over onveilige verkeerssituaties.

C. They tend to fall apart under rough conditions.

✗ ONJUIST - Er staat wel dat ze "take a beating" (klappen krijgen), maar niet dat ze uit elkaar vallen. Het gaat om schade die brandgevaar veroorzaakt.

Stap 3: Conclusie

Het juiste antwoord is A.

Paragraaf 3 legt uit dat opladen binnen gevaarlijk is omdat brand zich daar kan verspreiden. Daaruit kun je concluderen dat het veiliger is om buiten op te laden. De andere opties gaan over verkeersveiligheid en uit elkaar vallen, maar daar gaat de tekst niet over.

 B is niet het juiste antwoord

Dit klopt niet. Paragraaf 4 beschrijft geen recente incidenten. In plaats daarvan geeft het een algemene, technische uitleg van hoe een batterij kan mislukken. De incidenten worden genoemd in paragraaf 2 (57 incidenten wereldwijd, 13 in Australië), niet in paragraaf 4.
