The Franks had a warrior culture: fighting leads to honor, respect and power
Clovis (466-511) becomes king after defeating other Frankish lords --> after his baptism he is a Christian.
Charlemagne (742-814) is the most important king; he is crowned emperor (imperator) by the pope
