A synonym is a word or phrase that means exactly or nearly the same as another word or phrase.

For Example...
  • The words mail and male would be homophones because they are pronounced the same but have different spelling and meaning.  
  • Mail is the letters and packages we receive, while male is a boy or man. However, when saying these words out loud they sound the same.

  •  The word watch is a homophone with itself because we can watch Television but we also may wear a watch on our arm to tell the time.
