Close reading
Make groups of 4.

Read the selected poems and fragments on page 33 - 35 and consider the message each writer is trying to convey.
Then, identify all the instances of metaphor, simile and analogy.
Write down your answers.

Find the poet within yourself
In pairs, write a(n) (extended) metaphor.
Alternate turns providing an object and its comparison.
Make the comparisons as elaborate, eccentric and unusual as possible!

Decide on your best work (to be shared with the rest of the class).
