Characterization is how the writer develops and creates characters.

Direct Characterization
The author tells you exactly what you need to know. Imagine this:
Harry had a thin face, knobbly knees, black hair and bright-green eyes. He wore round glasses held together with a lot of Sellotape because of all the times Dudley had punched him on the nose. The only thing Harry liked about his own appearance was a very thin scar on his forehead which was shaped like a bolt of lightning. He had had it as long as he could remember and the first question he could ever remember asking his Aunt Petunia was how he had got it.

Indirect
Indirect characterization is when an author shows a character’s personality through his actions or feelings, and words, or through another character’s observations and reactions.
→ Indirect characterization relies on the reader to put together the clues in order to figure out the character’s personality.

Definition:
the way an author develops a character and reveals their unique traits and qualities

Effect on others/relationships-How do other people react to the character?

How to characterize my characters
Use the Steal model to characterize the characters from your book.
You can use the list of character traits to start with and when you've found a trait, you need to support it with proof from the book.

Tony Stark in Marvel movies. Grows from a rich playboy, realizing his company is at fault in wars, to a man who uses his company to do good in the world. Also as Iron Man he grows from a avenging man of iron to a hero who sacrifices himself to save the world.
