Past simple
Gebruikt om dingen te beschrijven die in het verleden zijn gebeurd. Eigenlijk net als de present simple: fact and habits, but in the past.
- I met my partner in 2016
- In primary school, I walked to school every day
- I lived in Hattem for 18 years

Maken
- hele werkwoord + -ed (walked, lived)

- We practise the irregular verbs
- First, lets do an exercise to freshen them up
- then we make sentences using the irregular verbs

Negative, questions
The past simple also has a negative (ontkennend) and a question form

- Negative: Didn't + hele werkwoord (ja ja, is raar)
     - I didn't go on holiday last year
     - He didn't send me an invitation
- question: did vooraan de zin + hele werkwoord
     - Did you go to corfe castle when you were in England?
     - Did you do anything fun while you were?

Before we use these...
To make you sound more natural, use these four words

And: toevoeging "en", breidt een zin uit
      - We went to the bech and had an ice cream
But: tegenstelling "maar".
      - We went to the beach, but the watre wa too cold for swimming
Because: reden "omdat"
     - We went to the beach because it was a sunny day
So: gevold "dus"
     - It was a sunny day so we went to the beach.

Asking questions 
Past simple questions can also be used with "wh-questions"
"did you go to the beach" <-> when did you go to the beach
wie - who: who did you meet at the pub?
wat - what: what did you do when you were in London?
wanneer- when: when did you last go on holiday?
waar - where: where did you stay?
waarom - why: why did you go to that beach? - why didn't you go to that beach?
