Galileo Galilei
In the 17th century in Italy Galileo
proved
that the earth revolves around the sun.
This is called heliocentrism. Helio is greek for sun.
The Catholic church was angry. God made the earth so everything should revolve around the eath (geo).
Galileo was a heretic and would be placed under house arrest till his death.
