Why did a revolution break out in Russia?
1. Unhappy with the rule of the tsar
    - Angry because they were dragged into the war by the tsar
    - Agry because he was leading the army
2. Famine

Soviets
After the revolution the workers and soldiers united to govern themselves in so-called soviets .

But this government was weak.

This led to a second revolution; the October Revoltution

Bolsheviks
A radical group called the Bolsheviks led this revolution. 

Their leader was called: Vladimir Lenin.
- Communist & dictator
> Peace treaty with Germany   > Industry nationalised
> Farmland distributed              > Religion banned
> Women same rights as men

Bolsheviks
Not everyone agreed with the Bolsheviks and Lenin.

> This caused a civil war between the Red Army (communist) and the opponents (White army)

The red army won the civil war in 1922. 
> USSR or in other words the Soviet Union

Stalin became leader of the USSR in 1924 and build the country into a communist dictatorship
