some --> bevestigende zinnen/vragende zinnen waarvan je verwacht dat het antwoord ja is.
Example: Could I have some water, please?
Any --> Ontkennende zinnen/ alle andere vraagzinnen
Example: I havn't got any idea.

some en any kun je combineren met bijvoorbeeld -thing, -body, -one, -where.

Let op! bij een van deze woorden krijg je any ipv some bij bevestigende zinnen:

without
hardly
