Slide 5 - Mind map

The interview: what, why, how?
  • You want to know two things:

    1) What is their objective on the UNESCO-theme?
    2) How does culture impact their objective on the UNESCO-theme?

  • 2 or 3 interviewers, 1 observant (The Cultural Artist)
  • Respondents: 1 Kenyan student, 1 Indonesian student
  • 6-10 questions

The interview: some advice
  1. Before the interview, send your questions to your respondents so they have time to read them.
  2. Let the respondent know that you are making notes.
  3. Tell them that it is okay if they don't feel comfortable sharing something.
  4. Listen closely to their answers and derive from your questions if something is unclear, or seems interesting to learn more about.
  5. Explicitly thank them for the interview!

The interview: preparation
  1. Consider your UNESCO-theme and look for information online: how is the theme relevant to Indonesia and Kenya? Write down keywords.
  2. Consider the people you want to interview. What can each of them they tell you about the theme, do you think?
  3. Brainstorm about the information to come up with potential questions.
  4. Come up with questions for both an Indonesian student as well as a Kenyan student.
  5. Optional: check with your teacher if your questions are relevant.
